Roles & Responsibilities
Assistant Commissioner
- Sets up and manages Offseason pick up leagues.
- Obtains Coaches for main season.
- Decides specific divisional setup.
- Works with Commissioner on New Player Development/Draft Night.
- Manages the Draft.
- Assists with Meet Your Team Party by presenting new Teams.
- Ensures each Team has a name.
- Print out weekly scoresheets- reimbursable.
- Sets up scoreboard and scoring table schedule to be followed throughout the season.
- Handles statistics to be distributed to Coaches (this can be delegated).
- Primary line of communication to Coaches regarding practices, game schedule, social events, sponsor support, rules, player absenteeism for playoff eligibility, standings, player injuries.
- Delegates sweeping of gym floor prior to game 1 of day.
- Reaches out to perspective players on the wait list to set up supplemental draft once date is determined.
- Escalates to Commissioner any player/coach/official’s behavioral issues.
- Hands out and announces divisional awards at end of the season banquet
- Acts as an overall ambassador of the division.
Treasurer
- Primary account holder for all league financials.
- File yearly taxes at both the State and Federal level to maintain Non-Profit status.
- Maintain accurate records/receipts (Google Docs) for all financial aspects of the BGBL.
- Maintain and update bank account records while keeping the Commissioner updated.
- Pay bills upon receipt of documentation and approval.
- Prepare and present to the Board the monthly financial report.
- Ensure all BGBL members have paid in full prior to playing.
- Assist in budgeting of events both on court and off.
- Contribute to any fundraising events throughout season.
- Handle any credits necessary due to unexpected events.
- Ensure sponsorship dues are paid, if not work directly with Director of Sponsorship.
Secretary
- Maintain all records of reporting.
- Take minutes at each meeting and send out to the Board with assigned tasks.
- Court Reporter (weekly during season) (as needed offseason) with sponsor spotlight, player of the month, etc…
- Help with the communication and promotion of socials and calendar of events.
Director of Play & Operations
- Work directly with D1 and D2 Asst. Commissioners on any divisional issues that arise or code of conduct concerns from players.
- Organize a D2 practice-drill night where each Coach runs a station and players rotate
- Decision maker along with Commissioner on any potential player issues (technical fouls, ejections, threats, etc.)
- Point of contact for Officials and scheduling.
- Address any facility issues with gyms (lights, floor, scoreboard) for practice and gameplay.
- Brainstorm ways of improving the on-court experience for all participants.
- Facilitate Championship Saturday events and fan participation.
- Review current bylaws and make any necessary changes.
- Ensure that all Board members are certified in proper safety training. (ie: defibrillator)
- Work directly with the Commissioner on potential game cancellations due to weather, etc.
Director of Sponsorship
- Assist in obtaining new sponsorship opportunities.
- Review potential Gold, Silver, Bronze level of sponsors.
- Work directly with the Director of Social Events to incorporate new opportunities and events.
- Ensure the sponsor spotlight is sent to Secretary to further promote.
- Work with companies on promotion of goods through social events and game play.
- Follow up on any non-payment sponsors for the BGBL season with the Treasurer.
- Implement new ideas, such as game day banners with sponsorships listed.
- Help promotion of sponsors through social media and website.
- Maintain an updated sponsorship contact list in Google Docs.
NGBA Liaison & Director of Tournament Play
- Work directly with Mark Chambers and the NGBA on new opportunities. Potential page link ups.
- Promote NGBA events and opportunities within the BGBL.
- Coordinate the annual 3 on 3 Tournament during season working directly with the Sponsorship and Social Events Directors.
- Develop new NGBA Tournament Teams of all levels within the BGBL.
- Work directly with the Director of Play & Operations on Tournament Teams practice times.
- Utilize all resources to assist with Travel Teams, Sponsorship, and Fundraising opportunities.
- Help promote the BGBL at a national level.
Director of Social Events
- With the assistance of the Board, help coordinate confirmed dates and times of events in order to make magnetic schedules.
- Work directly with the Co-Directors of Sponsorship on weekly social promotional giveaways to help drive attendance.
- Create social media flyers for promotion of events.
- Develop ideas to further communicate during game day (at gym) social events for that evening.
- Partner with Secretary on Court Reporter Communication days prior to event.
- Coordinate with location on potential appetizers and special space for BGBL events.
- Maintain a strong rapport with all BGBL sponsors to help give back.
- Look into non-alcoholic events, such as College game, skills competition, trivia night, etc.
Director of Recruitment
- Primary focus to increase number of players in Division 1. Goal to have 6 strong Teams.
- Promote BGBL play prior to the season through events, social media, colleges, advertising, flyer hang up at gyms and bars.
- Spreading the word of the BGBL main season with business card handouts.
- Brainstorm and implement new opportunities to promote the brand.
- Work directly with the Community Outreach Director.
- Lead all efforts in having a physical presence within BAGS, Summer T Dance, Pride, etc.
- Reply to any inquiries from new players regarding the League.
- Assist in new player development camp in September.
Community Outreach Director
- Look for ways to become more engaged and active in the Boston LGBTQ+ community.
- Implement monthly volunteer opportunities within organizations in the city.
- Engage political leaders to gain knowledge of the League and promote.
- Work directly with the Boston Celtics organization on ways to partner (not just for one Pride event)
- Collaborate with Director of Recruitment on ways to not only promote the BGBL, but also help within the City.
- Help plan fundraisers for a local organization together within the league.
- Look into building the non-profit status.
Advisory Board to the Commissioner
- Will not attend monthly Board meetings, but instead assist when necessary at a high level with the Commissioner.
- In the event a Board Member is not present, act as extra eyes at Social Events and the Gym.
- Provide opinions on any major changes implemented, as necessary.
- Help spread the mission and goals of the BGBL.
- Can be counted on to assist during an event as needed.
